Exploring Alabama’s Living Streams Workshop

Thursday, June 4th (9am – 5pm) & Friday, June 5th (9am – 12pm)

Location: New Site, AL
Description: Learn to teach youth about water quality in a fun, hands-on way in this Alabama Water Watch and AL Cooperative Extension System 4-H Program 1.5 day workshop. Formal and volunteer educators will learn how to:
• Teach students about the water environment, aquatic ecology, and water pollution with fun, hands-on activities
• Introduce students to aquatic insects of Alabama and the story they tell about water quality in our streams and rivers
• Conduct a stream bioassessment with their students in the field
• Get involved with the 4-H AWW Program
• Access equipment needed to do stream bioassessment
The Exploring Alabama’s Living Streams (EALS) curriculum is correlated to the Alabama Course of Study for 4th – 7th grade Science, high school Biology and Environmental Science courses. It is endorsed by AMSTI and correlated to Project Wet. BONUS: Curriculum packet includes a CD-ROM with images and a DVD with corresponding clips from the PBS series, Discovering Alabama. Complete the course to receive 12 CEU’s from Auburn University. Pre-registration is required and participants must attend both days.

This workshop is being coordinated in partnership with the Alabama Clean Water Partnership (Upper and Middle Tallapoosa River Basin.
