Rock Creek Watershed Management Project

The Rock Creek Watershed Management Project aims to reduce the amount of runoff and pathogens that enter creeks in the Rock Creek Watershed and eventually flow into Smith Lake. With assistance from local experts, agencies, and organizations, citizens developed a Watershed Management Plan to guide their efforts.

Alabama Department of Environmental Management Section 319 Funding is supporting a three year phase of this project (March 2011-March 2014) which is being coordinated by the Alabama Water Watch Program based at Auburn University. Education, outreach, and installation of on-the-ground BMPs for agriculture and forestry are the major types of strategies being utilized to clean up the watershed.
